Disconnect to Reconnect

#disconnecttoreconnect

“Sometimes we have to disconnect with the outside world to reconnect with our inner spirit”

We live in a world where technology makes us so accessible. So much so it is expected that we are only a text, email or phone call away at all times. The result is not always a positive one. We find we work more outside “traditional” work hours feeling that obligation to answer the messages. We end up connected to our phones instead of each other. Our society has chosen texting and emailing over picking up the phone to have a conversation.

Social media has made the human connection factor change from personal messages and phone calls to scrolling to see what everyone is up to. Although this has been a great way to keep up with people we may not keep in contact with on a regular basis  it reduces connection with others we may have had more contact with. Social media has also become a place where politics, shaming and attacks on people’s personal beliefs is made easier. Creating more anxiety for some as they scroll and see things that trigger their particular place in life.

So what do we need to do to take a brief break from all this and reconnect with what matters….ourselves and those around us.

1. Turn on airplane mode. Enjoy time with family or friends with no distractions. Everyone turns on airplane mode and phones aside! Play a game. Read a book….an actual book!! Go for a walk. Listen to music. Meditate. Have a bath and a glass of wine.

2. Go where there is no wifi….get outside into nature. There is no wifi but as the saying goes …. I promise you will be connected!

3. Write in a journal …. With an actual pen and paper!!

4. Pick up the phone and reconnect with someone you have lost contact with – Initiate the reconnection!!

5.  Do something for the mind, body and soul daily! Mind – read a book, learn something new (brain stimulation) Body – movement of any type Soul – something that triggers the feel good emotions
